Alex Podelko Spoke about Context-Driven Performance Engineering and More

By: RedLine13

At the first RedLine13 Customer Advisory Board meeting, noted speaker Alex Podelko spoke about context-driven performance engineering and more. He spoke as part of a Q&A with customers and members of the RedLine13 team.

Context-Driven Performance Engineering

Alex Podelko is a performance engineer at MongoDB, responsible for performance testing and optimization of the MongoDB Server. Over the last 20+ years Alex Podelko has supported major performance initiatives for Oracle, Hyperion, Aetna, and Intel in different roles including performance tester, performance analyst, performance architect, and performance engineer. Read his full bio here.

Alex spoke about exploratory performance testing, which is one option of context-driven performance engineering.

With context driven testing – you need to figure out what kind of testing you’re doing.

Alex talked about the evolution of performance testing and how companies like Netflix used to focus on canary testing. One of the RedLine13 customers commented on the similar evolution of the performance test engineer, who unlike QA testers, have added the ability to code.

Alex also spoke about the future of performance engineering, including the future of Apache JMeter.

A video of the conversation has been posted on RedLine13’s YouTube channel.
