<\/a>Integrating your AWS and RedLine13 accounts<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One of the key benefits of using RedLine13 is the ability to abstract away the management of individual load agents on AWS<\/a>. RedLine13 will then spin up, manage, and terminate load agents without you ever having to worry about any of those details. In this blog post, we will be guiding you through this one-time process of integrating your AWS account with your RedLine13 account.<\/p>\n

What is Required?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

RedLine13 makes it easy to connect your AWS account.\u00a0 (If you don’t already have an AWS account, you can create one for free here<\/a>.)\u00a0 We use IAM policies<\/a> and best of industry-standard security practices to safely establish a secure connection.\u00a0 All that is required is basic knowledge of AWS management and network security principles.\u00a0 Following the conveniently illustrated steps below, you can be fully integrated in under 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

Start to Finish in a few Easy Steps:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

To get started, log into your account and from the \u201cAWS Keys<\/em>\u201d menu, select the \u201cAWS Keys<\/em><\/a>\u201d option:<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

We will be creating a new AWS key pair. T<\/em>he first step is to give our key pair a name.\u00a0 We have chosen \u201cLoad Testing AWS Account<\/em>\u201d:<\/p>\n

\"Give<\/p>\n

The preferred integration method is using an \u201cAWS Account Role<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0 The next step is to set up an IAM role within your AWS account.\u00a0 Click on the blue \u201cToggle Instructions<\/em>\u201d button:<\/p>\n

\"Toggle<\/p>\n

Copy the JSON policy under Step 3<\/em>.\u00a0 Within your AWS console<\/a>, navigate to \u201cIAM<\/em><\/a>\u201d under \u201cSecurity, Identity, & Compliance<\/em>\u201d:<\/p>\n

\"AWS<\/p>\n

From the \u201cPolicy<\/em>\u201d link on the left side, select \u201cCreate policy<\/em>\u201d:<\/p>\n

\"Creating<\/p>\n

Select the \u201cJSON<\/em>\u201d tab and paste the policy copied from Step 3 found under the RedLine13 Key Pairs<\/a> instructions.<\/p>\n

\"AWS<\/p>\n

Click through to the final step of the policy creation.\u00a0 You will be prompted to give your new IAM policy a descriptive name.\u00a0 We suggest something like \u201cRedLine13_Access<\/em>\u201d, but you may choose any policy name:<\/p>\n

\"Give<\/p>\n

Back on the main IAM screen, from the \u201cRoles<\/em>\u201d link on the left side select \u201cCreate role<\/em>\u201d:<\/p>\n

\"Creating<\/p>\n

Select \u201cAnother AWS Account<\/em>\u201d and enter the RedLine13 account ID 635144173025<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n

\"Specifying<\/p>\n

Check the \u201cRequire external ID<\/em>\u201d checkbox, and enter the unique external ID number found on the RedLine13 Key Pairs<\/a> page (also listed with Step 9<\/em> of the key pair instructions):<\/p>\n

\"Entering<\/p>\n

On the following page, you will have the opportunity to attach the policy created above.\u00a0 You can search for the policy by typing in part of the meaningful name you gave it earlier.\u00a0 To attach the policy, ensure that it is checked in the list below:<\/p>\n

\"Attaching<\/p>\n

Click through to the final page of the role set-up, where you will be required to give a name to your role.\u00a0 We recommend something along the lines of \u201cRedLine13_Access<\/em>\u201d, however you can choose any name:<\/p>\n

\"Giving<\/p>\n

You will be brought back to the AWS Roles page.\u00a0 Select your role by clicking on it, and find the \u201cRole ARN<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0 This can be copied to the clipboard by clicking on the \u201ccopy<\/em>\u201d icon next to the ARN string:<\/p>\n

\"Copying<\/p>\n

Paste this into the \u201cAWS Role ARN<\/em>\u201d text box back in the RedLine13 \u201cKey Pairs\u201d page.\u00a0 Click \u201cAdd Key Pair<\/em>\u201d:<\/p>\n

\"Pasting<\/p>\n

The AWS integration is complete.\u00a0 The newly added key pair will appear in the \u201cKey Pairs<\/em>\u201d listing, along with a message that they the key pair was added.\u00a0 This will verify that all of the above steps have been completed successfully:<\/p>\n

\"AWS<\/p>\n

Return to the Test Dashboard<\/a> and click on \u201cStart a New Test<\/em>\u201d. The last step is to verify that RedLine13 has all of the necessary permissions set up properly to spin up load agent EC2 instances in AWS and execute tests.\u00a0 For that we recommend starting a JMeter<\/a> test and adding at least one load agent.<\/p>\n
