What is available in \u00a0open source load testing tools? \u00a0There are so many ways to slice and dice all the great open source projects and\u00a0this slide is not a deep review or demo of each project. \u00a0I looked at the dimensions of the projects in terms of content covered in this presentation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Distributed.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0Does it support scaling load tests to distributed agents and then collecting results.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Recorder.<\/strong> <\/em>Is a recorder provided to simplify building an initial test plan.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Charts.<\/strong><\/em> Are pretty graphs provided once the data comes back.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Plugins.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0This is a personal requirement, can I plug in new protocols or UI elements and easily extend the project.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Jenkins.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0Has the community provided a way to integrate with continuous delivery tools. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jenkins-ci.org\/\">Jenkins<\/a> support is a tell tale sign.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Underlying the list I found a few\u00a0broader categories<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Plan.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0Provides a mechanism to build a test plan. The top of the list are what you might call full load testing tools providing the ability to create a test plan.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>You.<\/strong><\/em> \u00a0Admit it, at some point you wrote your own script for load testing. Perhaps you open sourced it, perhaps you just run it for yourself.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Simple.<\/strong> <\/em>\u00a0These tools are very valuable but they typically are used for testing or hammering a single endpoint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What impressed me the most about this\u00a0compilation of load testing tools is the longevity of so many. \u00a0There have been 8 or 12 that have been around greater than 10 years. \u00a0Of the six\u00a0projects which had releases in 2015, five of them are older than 10 years. \u00a0 This kind of active community is an impressive feat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-703\" src=\"https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT.jpg\" alt=\"OSLT_OSLT\" width=\"801\" height=\"601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT.jpg 2400w, https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/OSLT_OSLT-1568x1176.jpg 1568w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 801px) 100vw, 801px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are references\u00a0to each of the projects which provide the ability to create load test plans.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"tsung.erlang-projects.org\">Tsung<\/a> :\u00a0Tsung is an open-source multi-protocol distributed load testing tool<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/gatling.io\/\">Galting<\/a> :\u00a0Gatling is an open-source load testing framework based on Scala, Akka and Netty<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/yandex\/yandex-tank\">Yandex.Tank<\/a> : \u00a0Yandex.Tank is an extendable open source load testing tool for advanced linux users which is especially good as a part of automated load testing suit.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jmeter.apache.org\/\">Apache JMeter<\/a> :\u00a0The Apache JMeter\u2122 application is open source software, a 100% pure Java application designed to load test functional behavior and measure performance.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/clif.ow2.org\/\">CLIF<\/a>\u00a0:\u00a0CLIF is a Load Injection Framework<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/locust.io\/\">Locust<\/a> :\u00a0Define user behaviour with Python code, and swarm your system with millions of simultaneous users.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.github.io\/iago\/\">Iago<\/a>\u00a0:\u00a0A load generator, built for engineers.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/grinder.sourceforge.net\/\">The Grinder <\/a>:\u00a0The Grinder is a JavaTM load testing framework that makes it easy to run a distributed test using many load injector machines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From the Open Source Load Testing presentation\u00a0http:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/richardfriedman\/open-source-load-testing Everything else was build up to the review of this slide.
