Your JMeter<\/a> input files can now be split evenly across all your servers. \u00a0 This can apply to CSV files or any other\u00a0text file upload, typically provided by the JMeter CSV Data Set Config<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Split file option solves the issues of needing to deal with manually spreading data files between servers so each has a unique data set. \u00a0 \u00a0We automatically slice the file so each load server has about the same amount of lines. \u00a0 This feature is an option for each input file.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this example, we are\u00a0building a load test plan for our search results page on runsignup.com<\/a>. \u00a0The goal of this test is to generate load with varying search terms, which\u00a0return from zero\u00a0to hundreds of results. \u00a0The plan is to simulate traffic from two regions with\u00a010,000 users over an hour period of time. \u00a0A list of 10,000 common words was used as our source for search terms. \u00a0The search terms were made to be unique, so we are not consistently hitting our caching layer. \u00a0Here is a graphic of the\u00a0general distribution plan for our test.<\/p>\n

Our test will be run in 2 regions, with each region running two load agents. We setup our test in\u00a0JMeter to start 2500 users over 1 hour.<\/p>\n

The search call will require our CSV Data File to be defined within the JMeter test plan.\u00a0The input file is called ‘search_terms’ and includes 10,000 terms\u00a0we want to search for.<\/p>\n

We defined the variable as ‘search’, and we add this\u00a0parameter to our URL request.<\/p>\n

After we save our\u00a0JMeter JMX file, we can\u00a0configure our Redline13 test plan. \u00a0 We start our load test via Redline by uploading our JMX and search_terms file. \u00a0\u00a0Since we are going to distribute the search file on 4 load agents, we will need to mark the file to be automatically split across all the servers.<\/p>\n

Now we can configure\u00a04 load agents,\u00a02 in Oregon and 2 in Virginia. \u00a0 With the split option enabled our file will be split\u00a025% on each server.<\/p>\n
