\nThis post is a bit delayed because the conversation really started at AWS re:Invent. As noted in the review pos<\/a>t<\/a> by Bob\u00a0it was a great event and we appreciated the love from many folks coming to our less than impressive booth. \u00a0 While we received many requests for info\u00a0on our Jenkins and JMeter integration, quite a few folks asked us about Gatling support.<\/p>\n

Why Gatling.io<\/a>\u00a0for RedLine?<\/b>
\nIn building Redline we were thinking about the ability to scale out load tests at reasonable cost. \u00a0It never mattered to us which tool to use for load testing JMeter, Gatling, or custom script (use the tool that you prefer). \u00a0St\u00e9phane Landelle’s slide deck on Gatling – Load Testing Made Easy<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0describes how it\u00a0differs from the other tools and can give you background on why so many people think Gatling is cool!<\/p>\n

Why RedLine for the Gatling Community?<\/b>
\nRedLine provides a very simple way to deploy Gatling tests at scale. \u00a0Need 100 servers to run your Gatling test for an hour \u2013 RedLine manages all of the deployment for you and it deploys on your AWS account \u2013 so all you are paying for is the hour of EC2 cost (and since we can deploy spot instances, it can be VERY cheap). \u00a0We are not charging you anything extra for that deployment \u2013 just raw AWS cost that is part of your AWS account. \u00a0We take care of spinning the instances up and down and then aggregating all the resulting data. \u00a0We charge $30 per month<\/a> as a flat rate to fulfill this service.

Our Gatling support<\/b>
\nWe provide a very straight-forward integration – load your Gatling Scala file, and if needed feeder file.\u00a0 Configure how many servers you want and press \u2019Start Test’! \u00a0 The help\u00a0page for using Gatling details the steps with some screen shots and is available at \u00a0https:\/\/www.redline13.com\/blog\/running-gatling-test\/<\/a>. \u00a0 You can also request that all the data points be returned\u00a0and made available.\u00a0\u00a0With that option,\u00a0you can analyze the data offline or import\u00a0the data into Gatling tools.<\/p>\n

Example Test Run\u00a0<\/strong>
\nHere is an example output of \u00a0a Gatling load test run across 20 servers. \u00a0\u00a0We can see much of the test output here including details on the test servers, the output files containing the Gatling logs, and response time graphs.<\/p>\n

From Gatling test plan we can see we setup 10 users to start at once and 500 users to ramp over 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

Our test started with 20 servers each\u00a0scaling to\u00a0510 users over 10 minutes. \u00a0We ran this test with 5 servers in these regions Virginia, California, Oregon, and Ireland.<\/p>\n

The test ran for about 15 minutes and executed as 10,200 users from 4 regions. \u00a0\u00a0Running with\u00a0On Demand instances the test cost $1.48.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0average result from the Gatling test plan took somewhere between 100 and 120 seconds. \u00a0This test ran through a few pages and pulled resource files as well. \u00a0\u00a0Here is an excerpt from the list of test servers.<\/p>\n
